Radioactive Waste Tanks Leaking
Where's a
Swiffer quicker picker-upper when you need one? Six tanks of
radioactive and toxic waste at Washington state's Hanford nuclear
reservation are leaking, announced state officials on Friday. Although
the governor stated that the leaks pose no immediate risk—it would be
years before the waste reached groundwater— the situation still doesn't
sound good. At least one of the tanks is leaking at a rate of 150 to 300

Here's the problem as I see it. This 150 to 300 gallons per year of radioactive waste likely will leach into the Columbia River and then travel down to Portland and out to sea. Because the Hanford plant I believe is right next to the Columbia River.
