I went into my settings for my site and found that Post Thumbnail photos was clicked on for my site. Whether this toggle had been switched by a person or by a software fluke I cannot say. It wasn't my daughter messing with the programming of my site like she often does to improve my site. So, I cannot really say if someone did this or the software itself switched on post Thumbnail photos or what?
Anyway, I was able to successfully fix the problem of photos overlapping my articles from the left.
