Aiken and Mourdock as Senate candidates likely have killed the Republican chances for a majority in the Senate. So, whoever is president now likely will have a do-nothing Congress on his hands because the House likely will remain Republican controlled and the Senate likely will remain Democratic controlled no matter who becomes President.
In the past the country has been best served with a President of one party and a Congress of another. However, with the Congress we have now this is no longer true. The country has not been served at all during the last 4 years because of Tea Party candidates unwilling to compromise. When something like this happens it creates a level of gridlock that destroys the country in a variety of ways. Though for investors this gridlock is great because no change means easier investing, it kills (literally in some cases) the middle class and poor of a country like ours. It also tends to kill our democracy, because in the end a democracy only works when there is compromise. Without compromise countries usually eventually fall into dictatorships and the end of rights for the middle class and poor. At that point often a revolution bloody or not ensues.
