The European Union needs a Captain of the ship of state who can move quickly before the European Union crashes on the rocks in future emergencies. Otherwise, the European Union won't be long for this world and will become an unsuccessful experiement.

Since I believe that the European Union is equally as valuable to the whole world as the United States is I believe a way must be found to make it capable of quick emergency decisions. Without this capability I don't see either the Euro or the European Union as surviving this present challenge. If the way it is dealing with Greece is repeated with Portugal and Spain then we are about to witness one of the worst economic blows seen in the last 100 years to the world economy.
