My Housekeeper told me yesterday about her friend that is also a housekeeper. This friend's house burned down in Paradise, California last week. Also, ALL the houses that her friend takes care of as a housekeeper also burned down last week (Thursday) so her business and livelihood is gone. So, her friend has moved back to the SF Bay area where she grew up because she needs a place to stay for herself and her two children since Paradise, California doesn't exist as a city of 27,000 people anymore.
So, it is likely that those people with relatives or friends to stay with in other places besides Chico where many Paradise residents are living in tents in a WalMart parking lot for now are also going back to other places in California and beyond since Paradise is gone as a city in California now. If you multiply this story by the at least 15,000 or more people whose jobs, homes and livelihood are gone are scrambling all over the country or living in tents in a Wal Mart parking lot in Chico nearby where Paradise, the city of 27,000 burned up last week.
I heard the story of a man with an 89 year old blind and infirm mother decided to stay and fight the fire with his mother's caregiver and they were able to save the main house with garden hoses and a pump on a 3 foot high outdoor free standing swimming pool when the water stopped flowing through the garden hoses when the water stopped running from the tap. He said that sometimes the two men had to lay down on the ground and spray water on each other as flames lapped all around them to survive, but they did and so did his 89 year old mother who is blind. They saved the main house where his mother is living and she lived through this too.
It's going to start getting colder so living in a tent in Chico isn't likely the best thing for staying healthy for the survivors either. These are the present temperatures in Chico. Being in a tent in the 30s isn't the best if you want to stay healthy and alive.
