Dr. Eben Alexander claims to have visited the afterlife (Twitter)Dr. Eben Alexander
has taught at Harvard Medical School and has earned a strong reputation
as a neurosurgeon. And while Alexander says he's long called himself a
Christian, he never held deeply religious beliefs or a pronounced faith
in the afterlife.
But after a week in a coma during the fall of 2008, during which his
neocortex ceased to function, Alexander claims he experienced a
life-changing visit to the afterlife, specifically heaven.
"According to current medical understanding of the brain and mind,
there is absolutely no way that I could have experienced even a dim and
limited consciousness during my time in the coma, much less the
hyper-vivid and completely coherent odyssey I underwent," Alexander
writes in the cover story of this week's edition of
Newsweek.
So what exactly does heaven look like?
Alexander says he first found himself floating above clouds before
witnessing, "transparent, shimmering beings arced across the sky,
leaving long, streamer like lines behind them."
He claims to have been escorted by an unknown female companion and
says he communicated with these beings through a method of
correspondence that transcended language. Alexander says the messages he
received from those beings loosely translated as:
"You are loved and cherished, dearly, forever."
"You have nothing to fear."
"There is nothing you can do wrong."
From there, Alexander claims to have traveled to "an immense void,
completely dark, infinite in size, yet also infinitely comforting." He
believes this void was the home of God.
After recovering from his
meningitis-induced coma, Alexander says he was reluctant to share his
experience with his colleagues but found comfort inside the walls of his
church. He's chronicled his experience in a new book, "
Proof of Heaven: A neurosurgeon's journey into the afterlife," which will be published in late October.
"I'm still a doctor, and still a
man of science every bit as much as I was before I had my experience,"
Alexander writes. "But on a deep level I'm very different from the
person I was before, because I've caught a glimpse of this emerging
picture of reality. And you can believe me when I tell you that it will
be worth every bit of the work it will take us, and those who come after
us, to get it right."
end quote from:
For me, the experience is sort of all the time. In my experience there is no real way to separate Heaven and Earth. So, as an intuitive I experience people being alive and what happens to them after they pass on often. However, after about a month or so most people move onto a more permanent place that they go to which might be different for each person. When most people pass on they have to get used to being out of their bodies and often they need time to adjust to the whole idea. But my point of view is that on one level there isn't too much difference in being "passed on" from being alive in a body. The main difference is that where you go at night when asleep or in your daydreams or visions becomes more "full time" and after you pass on there is no functional body to return to. But other than that the differences are not as great as you might think except that people need to find a more permanent place of residence other than earth. So, though after people get more balanced on the other side with all of it they might return and talk to relatives in dreams and visions both in the night or in the day.
Recently, a group of my family members came to visit me to tell me they were together and okay and for me not to worry about them. I had wondered if they had all found each other because the mother had passed on in 1995, the son had passed on in 2001 and the daughter had passed on a couple of years ago (I think in 2008) but I hadn't heard whether they all found each other on the other side. So, they came to me to tell me they had all found each other so I wouldn't worry about them anymore. So, that was nice that they did that for me.
They also said that some things I was told were not true and that one of the reasons they came were to tell me of things that were not told to me in truth. Since this affected other lives I was very glad to hear this. So, they came to set the truth straight about some things too because they saw it was necessary. So, this was a good thing too.
Begin repeat partial quote from above quoted article:
"According to current medical understanding of the brain and mind,
there is absolutely no way that I could have experienced even a dim and
limited consciousness during my time in the coma, much less the
hyper-vivid and completely coherent odyssey I underwent,"
end quote from above article:
So, basically what this means to me is that current medical technology and understanding of what a human brain is and can do and can be is very limited. So, I guess it is back to the drawing board for scientists trying to understand all this stuff.
I'm not limited by this approach because I move as fast as things work for me. So, as I realize something is true by experiencing it, I try to integrate that new knowledge and move forward because in the end I only have to prove new scientific truths to myself because that is enlightenment. As I compile more and more knowledge I can then share it if anyone is interested. I think this is how we all should operate to move as fast as we gather knowledge and move forwards. I kind of wonder how anyone survives this world if they don't use this method? Maybe people who can't move this fast don't survive much? However, I also see the value of trying to create universal truths that everyone or almost everyone on earth can share. However, since consciousness changes every reality how can you have a truth that stays the same and never changes. There is only one truth like that and that is the truth of Being and Non-Being. Those are the only truths that don't change much throughout all time and space.
