Though I'm writing this as fiction it might be something useful to contemplate. Because of nuclear weapons it is no longer practical to have a war between larger nations. However, if you imagined a nation presently angry with the U.S. like for example, Iran, or any other oil producing nation that doesn't want its oil prices devalued by solar or wind power or off shore drilling rigs like in the United States. Such a power might have a vested interest in causing no more deep oil rigs be put up anywhere because of this present disaster. Such a nation, group, or corporate espionage group could theoretically be behind something like this. For that matter why couldn't they deploy their own underwater robots from a submarine lying on the seabed in the Gulf and presently undetected there because of nothing moving there and lying on the seabed within a few miles of the oil vent there. Such a submarine might feasibly launch their robotic vehicle to further increase the flow of oil. And if there technology was superior to BP's or what the U.S. Defense department has presently deployed no one would know.
This robot could even be in the shape of a shark or whale so that it would not be perceived as a threat by other technology or devices there owned by BP or the U.S. Defense Department. I have seen this kind of technology that mimics fish of various kinds and sizes on the internet being tested in the water for several years now. So this may be feasible at present. So how would anyone know for sure one way or the other at 5000 feet?
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
