According to this article the single most violent Solar Storm ever recorded will hit earth tonight with presently unknown consequences for mankind. So, it could be anything from the joke of Y2k to something more ominous and serious. When I tried to quote this from Google I couldn't so likely this is being suppressed in the U.S. to avoid a panic regarding our now very electronic culture. Many of us have been concerned about something like this for sometime. I was exposed to the last blast that hit earth on the 8th and felt very altered for a couple of days as an intuitive that I wrote about some here at my blog. The auroras from the 8th are also available from buttons at my site or through Google or yahoo search engines as well if you are interested. If this manifests as people say it could be the most serious thing electronically that we have seen yet this century. Also, the Carrington Event that happened in 1859 that set papers on fire in telegraph stations around the world at that time and allowed telegraph operators to send messages with no earth based electricity connected might be interesting for you to look at as well. Also, during the Carrington Event it never got dark anywhere on earth as this occurred and the auroras were all over earth for more than 24 hours.

My concern is that something like this could sort of be like an EMP(electromagnetic pulse) that happens during a nuclear explosion which can kill anyone within 12 feet of anything metal where the pulse is strong enough. But as I said this could be a fluke (if the blast misses earth) but if a blast is a direct hit on earth almost anything is possible.

To understand this better imagine something the size of a basketball at a distance from an orange(the orange represents earth and the basketball represents the sun). Now at random a blast of solar energy could go in any direction at any time. But since there is only 1 degree north south and 1 degree east west that that blast can be fired and actually hit the orange there are 359 degrees north south and 359 degrees east west that would not hit the orange. So, if you are a mathematician what is the probability of 1 chance in 360 degrees north south and 1 chance in 360 degrees east west? (I'm using solar pivot poles as north and south).

So, in any solar blast we have one chance or one degree in each direction out of 360 degrees twice for earth to actually be hit. Then it all depends upon the size of the ejection and the quality of the ejection of what actually hits the magnetosphere of earth itself.

If we are hit likely you won't die but likely electronically it might be a new world where only Dvd's, CD,s and other non-magnetic storage devices still hold information. So, hopefully you have your data backed up on non-magnetic storage devices relatively impervious to EMPs like Coronal mass ejections tend to be like.
