Highway 101 in Ventura County will remain closed overnight due to 7,000-acre wildfire

Highway 101 will remain fully closed overnight on Thursday due to the Hill Fire, which burned 5,000 to 7,000 acres in Ventura County.
Active fire conditions persist on both sides of the freeway just south of Camarillo, according to Ventura County Fire Department officials, who provided updates at a Thursday night press conference.
The freeway is blocked on the southbound side between Pleasant Valley Road and Wendy Drive and on the northbound side from Highway 23 to Pleasant Valley Road.
Drivers heading south to Los Angeles are being detoured off Highway 101 at Santa Rosa Road, connecting to Highway 118 through Simi Valley and then on to Highway 5.
Highway 126, which intersects with Highway 101 in Ventura, provides another connection to Highway 5.

A wind-driven vegetation fire in Ventura County prompted authorities to close Highway 101 south of Camarillo and order evacuations Thursday afternoon.
The fire was reported in the Hill Canyon area of Santa Rosa Valley at about 2 p.m., and by 3:30 p.m., it was estimated to be 8,000 to 10,000 acres, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
The blaze jumped Highway 101, which was closed in both directions between Wendy Drive and Pleasant Valley Road in Camarillo, Caltrans District 7 officials said.
Evacuations were ordered for the Camarillo Springs area and California State University, Channel Islands campus, according to Ventura County officials.
Highway 101 is fully closed just south of Camarillo because flames jumped the road, according to Caltrans District 7.
The freeway is blocked on the southbound side between Pleasant Valley Road and Wendy Drive and on the northbound side from Highway 23 to Pleasant Valley Road for an unknown duration.
Drivers heading south to Los Angeles are being detoured off Highway 101 at Santa Rosa Road, connecting to Highway 118 through Simi Valley and then on to Highway 5.
Highway 126, which intersects with Highway 101 in Ventura, provides another connection to Highway 5.

As of 3:15 p.m., an evacuation center was set up at the Borchard Community Center, 190 Reino Road in Newbury Park.
The Ventura County Star reported thousands of structures were threatened by the Hill Fire, which was burning the same areas affected by the 2013 Springs Fire.
Multiple San Luis Obispo County fire agencies sent firefighters and equipment down to the Ventura County fire area to help battle the blaze.
Law enforcement agencies also responded to help with evacuation efforts, including the county Sheriff’s Office, the Cal Poly University Police Department, the Cuesta College Police Department and the Pismo Beach Police Department, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
