2nd Quantus plane: a 747 this time returns to Singapore

UPDATE 1-Qantas aircraft makes emergency landing in Singapore

This is the second Quantus plane to have to return to Singapore with engine problems. The first was an A380 that exploded. The route between Sidney and Singapore might be intersecting with ash clouds just like routes in Europe were compromised by the Iceland Volcano ash clouds that spew out microscopic pieces of airborn glass particles that cause jet engines to jam, stop working or explode, earlier in the year.

This is beginning to look more and more like problems from the ash clouds from Mt. Merapi's volcanic eruptions in Indonesia. These eruptions have already killed more than 100 people on the ground from burning and breathing problems from hot ash and lava. And we also know many of these ash clouds are above 30,000 feet in elevation and traveling on the winds at altitudes where passenger jets travel.
