Gluten

When you are allergic to gluten (and not so bad it kills you) often eating some gluten is a little like having a beer in it's affects on someone somewhat allergic to gluten. For me, it affects me a little like a Beer combined with eating too much sugar. However, I went through 65 years of my life without realizing I was allergic. I just thought the feeling of my brain swelling and not processing information quite right when I ate wheat bread, pizza, or other gluten things was a normal reaction. I didn't know any better for all those years. What I know now though is that 40% of people on earth are allergic somewhat to fatal regarding gluten.

However, every so often I have to have a piece of Sourdough bread (one of my California favorites that came from the times of the Gold Rush). So, the other day I made myself a Grilled cheese sandwich on Sourdough bread with very few bad effects. So, today I had cheese blintzes with strawberries at  local breakfast place with my daughter. However, I'm not sure if it was sugar that early in the morning or gluten or both but I found myself so spaced out when I got home I couldn't think straight and realized I likely couldn't keep this up and stay functional.

So, I'm thinking now that gluten for me is like having one or more beers (which is something I usually don't do at all). But, in understanding this I realize driving a car might not be a good idea after having gluten either.

Today I called my daughter who is also gluten allergic to tell her my story and to laugh with her. It turned out she had eaten a doughnut that her teacher in college had brought for all the students because she wanted to be polite. However, she was having a similar experience to me so she sounded kind of goofy on the phone. So, we both had a good laugh and she realized it wasn't worth it to be polite to her teacher and I realized what I was doing wasn't working for me either.

The other reason to give up Gluten whether you are gluten allergic or not if you're over 50 is because 80% to 90% of your joint pain in your muscles and joints tends to go away whether or not you are allergic to gluten.

So, basically you likely in many cases won't need to take pain killers for your muscles or joints (in many cases) if you give up gluten entirely.

However, I must say, regular pizza and sourdough bread are really hard to give up. (at least it they are for me).

However, one of the other advantages is if you give up gluten you likely will tend to lose weight like I do slowly over time. (Because the non-gluten replacements aren't as tasty as the gluten stuff are).

But, if I'm losing weight that's a good thing right?
