Just like with a lot of things if you are exposed to them early enough in life you aren't allergic to them, peanuts is also like this.
So, what they are finding is that kids are becoming allergic to peanut butter mostly because they aren't exposed to it early enough.
How I would look at this is sort of like how humans used to be (and still are) in a lot of the world where kids every day are playing in the dirt and eating dirt and water that isn't that good and exposed to all sorts of things. Often times, (because they have ignorant parents) they won't have (Any) allergies. Because it turns out that most allergies are simply because the children aren't exposed to enough allergens early enough.
So, the protectiveness of neurotic overly protective parents is one of the main ways kids are getting allergies of all kinds.
But then, there is the other side of this.
What happens when your kid is exposed and maybe dies before you can isolate what it is he or she is allergic to?
However, that is what the human race was actually like until you had neurotic over protective parents over much of the developed world.
So, where is the balance here?
Each parent and child is going to have to find it for themselves I guess.
