Kerry Says Negotiations With Assad's Government are necessary

This statement is rooted in the facts on the ground of human carnage and the destruction of the futures of more than 14 million children there. The fact is that if Assad were overthrown now by ANYONE Syria would be a failed state into which either Al Qaeda or ISIS would swarm even more than they have already. So, at present the Only hope for any kind of stability there (unfortunately) is Assad (at least in the short run). Also, there is no possibility of setting up another government without causing a completely failed state in the process. After 4 years the country and the people are so devastated that much of the nation has basically returned to the 1800s with no power for water or lights. You can look at a night time map now and see the level of devastation in all areas now except maybe Damascus where Assad is. Even there it has reduced night time lights about 25% or more. But, the rest of Syria is mostly a wasteland without water or power. So people live in most of Syria now with candles and kerosene lamps and carrying buckets of polluted water and hoping they can find some food before a sniper shoots them in the back. This is the primary reason for negotiations because unfortunately now without Assad there will be absolutely no government the world can even begin to think about living with there. Without Assad now you basically have Somalia during the 1990s with Blackhawk Down (see the movie).
