A Baby born now could live to age 142
I think this might be the single fastest growing article I have ever written which is based upon
the February 23 2015 issue of Time Magazine.
If you look at the cover of this particular magazine it shows an infant that could potentially live to age 142. The way they found this to be possible is by putting someone on a special diet.
Here is a quote from page 2 of this particular issue of Time Magazine on page 2:
"How Old can we live to be?
That remains to be seen, but if a promising drug does to humans what it does to mice-a big if- the answer is 142. Mice have a median survival time of 27 months, but with treatment, the longest living mouse hit 48 months, a life 1.77 times longer. The median human lifespan is 80 years--so if the oldest person lived 1.77 times longer, he or she would reach 142."
end quote from page 2 of the February 23 2015 issue of Time Magazine.
However, to make this more realistic one likely would have to live in one of the more long lived countries (but not necessarily).
Here are life expectancies by country:

If this becomes true (142 years) I began thinking about retirement.
For example, I was forced to retire at age 50 because I had had a heart virus for 8 months and if I had kept working I would have died. So, in September or October of 1998 I had to retire after turning 50 that year. I have already now been retired since then. So, as of last fall I had already been retired 16 years. This fall it will be 17 years.
However, imagine a baby who lives to be 142 years old.
How long will that baby be retired?
If he or she retired at 50 that baby would be retired almost 100 years!
So, thinking about retirement might really be important especially in the developed world because you might be retired 100 years or more in the future or you might just work until you die.
So preparation for retirement might be much more important in the future than it is now.
However, I remember being age 21 and not expecting to make it to 25 because I was unhappy and suicidal at the time. What kept me alive until I married and had a son was many great girlfriends along the way. Otherwise I likely wouldn't be here now. I'm really grateful for all the amazing women in my life starting with my mother, grandmothers, Aunts and mentors. I'm also really grateful for my Dad and uncles and Grandfather who mentored me into adulthood.
So, just remember my story of not expecting to live to 25. Now I'm almost 67 and will be happily married 20 years to the same woman this next December and have three biological children, 2 step children, 2 God Daughters, and all of my children have either been to college or graduated from college already. So, they are all on their way to 150 years or more too.
